
Liberian-Swedish Partnership Advances Rural Connectivity With 45km Village Access Roads in Lofa County
As part of a week-long trip to three counties in North-Central Liberia, the Ministry of Public Works through its Liberian - Swedish Access Driven Rural Development Programme (LISA) today held another round of talks with local county officials.
The Consultative Engagement brought together Stakeholders in Voinjama City, Lofa County at the Administrative Building, as 45 kilometers of village access roads are expected to be constructed within twenty four months.
The targeted districts to benefit are Zorzor, Voinjama, Kolahun and Foya.
The Ministry's Team is being led by Deputy Minister for Rural Development and Community Services, Jocelia Taplah.
She extolled the Swedish Government through SIDA for the partnership that continues to subsist between Liberia and Sweden, especially in the area of infrastructural development, with emphasis on Feeder Roads and the recently launched "Village Access Roads" which enables local farmers to get their produce to the big markets.
Speaking on behalf of the Superintendent of Lofa County was the County's Administrative Officer, James Tarnue, who lauded the Liberian Government and its Foreign Partner (Sweden) for the support.
According to the Lofa County Official, Lofa remains the "Bread Basket of Liberia", adding that the construction of the village access roads will help accelerate farming activities in the county.
The Liberian-Swedish Access Driven Rural Development Programme is funded by the Sweden International Development Agency (SIDA), with a commitment by the Liberian Government to maintain the existing feeder roads in the county and other parts of Liberia.
