Minister of Public Works Embarks on a Second of the Year — Follows Up on Commitments Made During Previous Tour
On January 15, 2026, Minister of Public Works, Roland Layfette Giddings, embarked on his first project tour of the year across Montserrado County to assess the level of progress on ongoing road works. The projects, which were officially declared commenced on October 15, 2024, are part of the government’s broader effort to improve road connectivity and infrastructure standards in the county. During that initial inspection, the Minister and his team of engineers identified several areas requiring urgent attention to ensure the works met the required quality and engineering standards. Contractors at the time pledged to address all concerns raised.
Today, the Minister conducted a follow-up tour primarily aimed at evaluating whether contractors had fulfilled the commitments made during the January inspection. Accompanied by technical staff from the Ministry, he reassessed key project corridors to determine compliance with specifications and timelines.
Impressively, Minister Giddings expressed satisfaction with the level of improvement recorded between his first and second tours. He noted significant progress on multiple project sites and commended contractors for responding positively to earlier concerns. The Minister said the visible transformation reflects a renewed commitment to delivering durable and quality infrastructure for the Liberian people.
He further expressed delight at being able to smoothly drive from the 72nd Boulevard through Paco and Peace Islands, along Allison Street, and through the Old Road corridor; noting that these were routes that previously posed serious challenges to motorists and residents. According to him, the improved accessibility demonstrates the tangible impact of the ongoing rehabilitation works.
For his part, Minister Giddings praised Liberian-owned construction companies for proving competitive alongside their foreign counterparts. However, he cautioned that performance remains the Ministry’s central focus, warning that any contractor who fails to meet expected standards risks contract termination. He emphasized that quality delivery and adherence to timelines are non-negotiable.
Projects visited during the tour included:
-
Freeport to St. Paul Bridge Road
-
Caldwell Road Rehabilitation
-
Chicken Soup Factory Road
-
Paco & Peace Islands Connection,
-
Allison Street, and
-
Wroto Town connection to the Old Road.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to sustained monitoring to ensure that all projects are completed in line with national development goals.
